We are very busy. Packing things up in the house. Arranging things with our tenants. Handing over work. Arjan secretly still has too much work in Apeldoorn. Taking a year off sounds very easy at first. Pack your bags and go. But that is not how it works for us.
I am 1.80 meters tall and Arjan is 1.88 meters tall. We are going to many countries where everyone is much shorter. So we thought carefully about what clothes to bring. Because, for example, overweight people do live all over the world and I can buy a t-shirt. But if I don’t want it to be a crop top, with my ‘long’ back, I will still have to buy it in the Netherlands. If the men are much shorter than the Dutch models, a men’s shoe size up to size 41 is too small for Arjan. All in all, quite a puzzle, but we managed it. Along the way, I will make a post about all the stuff we are carrying with us.
We have done thorough preparation regarding my health. The medication has required a lot of care and attention. Going to the GP together. Get well informed about vaccinations and when to get them. The medical preparation started a year before our trip. Fortunately, we have a wonderful GP who is very supportive, and yesterday I picked up a bag of medication for the trip.
And in the meantime, we are tired. Ready for a vacation. You really start to notice not having any days off for a year. It was wonderful to be able to look after our ‘cat friends’ in Amsterdam. Just being in a different city, a different environment, great company with lots of cuddles. A short break. Thanks Ahmed and Hanneke!
Just a few more weeks to go and then we’re off. We are looking forward to go!
